A silage tank is a storage tank for silage effluent and it has no outlet pipe. Its contents need to be emptied at regular intervals using tankers.

Silage Effluent has a very high BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and can cause severe damage to the environment if allowed to enter a watercourse. Because of this, silage tanks need to have a special resin liner to prevent this
